lame blogger

Hello my dears,

anyone still there? Hellooooo
God I hope you guys are still there.

I know I have been a very very bad blogger.

I will be back one day.

Trying new meds for pain and anxiety. Ups and downs, downs and ups.

I did make some hair stuff for the Alley Cat and Angels Fundraiser this weekend.
No memory, thoughts are not coming together well.

Stick with me please~!

A little Competition!

Sooo.. One saturday, rainy, yucky lazy day it was. Lizard and I decided to craft.

I need to make some flowers, hair bands, barrettes and such for a fundraiser for Alley Cats and Angels. If any of you locals want o donate, let me know!

Anyway, I decided to show Lizard how to make a rolled felt flower, since she refused to do the rosettes.
(Love you Liz!! I know you are reading this)

Here are mine!

Cute. Lizard came up with using the two colors.
 Here are hers!

I think she one up'ed me!!!
Gotta get that child a hobby ;-)

What do y'all think?

trying to get the mojo back

Hello my dears,

In a valiant attempt to try to get my mojo back, I got my self settled into my craft room for the day yesterday.
After crying a bit at all the remembrance and writing my short story yesterday, I decided to put up the baby gate, bring the cats in the room with me, turn on the TV and get to work.

Mack asked me to make a flower a few weeks ago when she was visiting. I finally got around to it. If you follow me on Twitter or on Facebook You can see the picture that I sent from my Instragram account.

Then I watched the season Finale of a couple of shows that I DVR'ed. Gotta love that.

I did get a new wreath done. A la all the rolled felt flowers out there. I have never made something so easy.
Just cut a circle, cut a spiral out of that circle and roll it. EASY! How to Girl has a great tutorial.  Though I start at the center of my circle for the rolling it turned out just fine.

Hope you all are having a GREAT monday ;-)

10 years

Hello my dears,

10 years ago today we were all glued to our televisions living the horror that everyone around the world was feeling.  I was leaving class listening to the radio when I heard that the first plane had hit the tower. We all thought it was a joke, until the flames were coming out of the building. Racing home and running in the door yelling to my husband what had happened. He didn't believe me, as I turned on the Today show to listen to Katie Couric speak about what was happening.
10 years ago, I remember thinking, go get the kids, and drive as far away as possible.
10 years ago, I was still married to my first husband. I was in college. I wasn't happy with my life.
10 years ago, I was trying to get out but with 2 children, no money it was a hard decision.

It didn't happen.

9 years ago, I was in a car accident that made me think about my life and realize I was not happy. Time to get out.

Of course, we must never and can never forget the horror that happened. The pain of the victims. The pain and heart-wrenching silence when the towers fell.
My way of dealing with this was to remember my Military training, patriotism and trusting in myself.

Never forget.

Favicon!

Hello my dears,
Sorry for the absences. I have not been too motivated to do anything once I get home. It is the beginning of the semester here at the college, so it is busy, busy time of the year. Which means I am tired. Then home to do homework with the Monkey Man. Do you know how hard it is to get a 7 year old boy to sit still to do math sheets, spelling and reading, then chores and you can't forget a snack when you get home. Which means my day begins at 5am and ends somewhere area 7pm. By then I am tired and don't want to do anything, much less get on the computer or behind a sewing machine.

I had a free moment today to do a quick tutorial on a favicon. What is a Favicon you ask? Favicons are the small 16 pixel by 16 pixel pictures you see beside some URLs in your browser’s address bar.
The easiest and simplest way to do one is through a generator. It takes your favorite picture and shrinks it down to size.

Find your favorite picture. Preferably one that goes with your blog.

Then Go to http://www.favicon.co.uk/
You can find multiple pages of already created favicons, but I prefer to have one that I like or did.

Follow the directions to create it. Make a note of where you downloaded the favicon.

Go back to Blogger, go to the Design and Click on Edit at the top of your elements

Upload your favicon and Save.

Preview and make sure you can see your favicon in a browser.

that is all for now!

{organized}

Hello My dears!

I have been trying to get organized in my new sewing room. Slowly but surely. I have also promised myself I I would use only the materials I have on hand. No more spending unless needed for the rest of the year. Of course there may be that fabulous deal that I just will not be able to pass by ;-)

Starting with my thread organizer.

It turned out very nice!

Want to see how?

You are going to need some peg board ( already on hand from the scrap pile at Home Depot), dowel rods, scissors, wood glue and a pair of needle nosed pliers and a marker. Oh and don't forget a frame. Totally forget to get a picture of it!

Cut all your dowels in pieces of 3 - 4 1/2 inches. Depends on the size of your thread. Cut as many as you think you need or are going to need
Glue each rod into every other hole. I recommend placing wax paper under your project so the glue will not stick to the counter or your work surface.

Measure before and mark where you should start with your frame. I didn't and my first row ends at the frame. It didn't hurt the final product though.

Now let your glue dry.

Grab your Spray Paint. paint that frame! I choose Berry Pink here... not my first choice, but it was what I had. And paint the peg board too.

This is what I see when I sew.

Hope you like it!
Cherie.

P.S. I logged in and I have 50 Followers!! WOW.

Just call me a tease

Hello my dears!

So I am totally getting my butt in gear... ok somewhat!

Between the kids home for summer, The girls going to their father's for vacation or friends houses, or having people over and Monkeyman wanting to play outside all day long until dinner, there hasn't been much crafting going on. AH! summer time.
Lots of reading to Monkeyman. A total addiction to Pinterest, especially on my phone. Now I am on twitter, too.
Lord, when will I find the time!

I did start a project on sunday.
Can you guess what it is going to be?

Hugs,

Cherie

bathroom window treatment

Hello my dears,

How is everyone's Wednesday?

I hope it is good!

I have been looking through my posting looking for a wreath that I made at the beginning of the year, but I can't find it. So here it is! The Master bathroom window treatment.

This is what the window looked like before I decided that it need to be dressed up some more.

Supplies:
5 - 1 inch roll of ribbon ( cut into 9 - 10 inch strips)
1 - foam wreath
coordinating t-shirt material for the rosettes
1 strip 15 inches of ribbon for hanging

This was a bit time consuming to make.
You have to cut a LOT of strips of ribbon. And don't mind the looks that your hubby will give you when you are making this. I got so weird looks. Tie each strip around the wreath with a double knot.
You have to push the ribbons together on the wreath to make it fuller.
Once that is done, you then get to decorate it. I choose to use rosettes. Choose your own tutorial for that as there are so many great ones out there.
Then use your 15 inch piece of Ribbon to hang it in your favorite place.

Have Fun!

Feeling Lucky??

Hello my dears,
http://www.ohiouprssa.org/2009/02/what-not-to-wear-interview-apparel.html
It is monday morning at 1023am and I have already seen people that make me wonder if they are still teaching how to dress and act for interview success. Who doesn't show up without a pen, a notepad and dress nicely??? Don't show up in a sundress and sandals. I don't care how hot it is outside. AND definitely do not show up in jeans!!
Sorry for the rant... just erks me. You come to an interview dressed for success, enthusiastic and ready for what ever lame job you are applying for.

OK... OK... ON to bigger and better things. Are you feeling lucky?? I know I am... ;-)  ok. I wish I am lucky at this one.

Miss Karly over at "Buns in my oven" is doing a fabulous giveaway!

Who wants to win a $100 Gift Certificate to Best Buy??
I know I do!! How about you? What’s your dream appliance? Leave a comment telling her what kind of fancy futuristic appliances you’d like to see and you could win a $100 Best Buy gift card!

I just want a fridge that cleans up after those spills that little ones make trying to be big boys and spill the chicken juice or the tea or thinking the jello is done.

Go!! Click on the Samsung 4-Door LCD Refrigerator above to go over to Karly's blog.

Happy Sunday and a footstool

Hello my dears,

Hope you all are having a happy Sunday. It was a lazy day around here. Went to the NC Fair Grounds today as it wasn't has hot as it has been all week. It was only 96 instead of 100+ (hahaha).
We got there around 11am and people were packing up already. All our favorite outdoor vendors were already gone. OH well.
I did get to try some microwaveable pork skins. They were actually good. As any good southern should know, pork skins are greasy, layered in fat, salt and SOOOOO not good for you. These had 65% less fat! 33% Less Sodium!  32 mg Less Cholesterol! 40 Less Calories! Still not good for you, but better. ;-)

The day just got lazier from there until I told myself to get up and finish that footstool that you started painting last week.

I posted a picture on Facebook last night as I was working on it. So don't forget to the like the page, you may be missing out on some postings.

So I finished it today.

What do you think? The color a good match for the chair?
Marley seems to like what I have done. ;-)

Just don't mind the blue walls those will be taken care of soon.

Hugs!
Cherie

lazy... just maybe

Hello my dears,

Having a good Thursday? Tis good... tis good!

Did I ever tell you that my oven broke a couple of months ago. Well it did. Heating the oven, the element blew... literally. I can still use the stovetop and the broiler, but I haven't been able to bake anything in like two months.
Starting to get to the point where I am getting creative with dinners or using the grill a lot.
Did you know that you can cook french fries under the broiler? You have to set the rack low... but you can do it. And you get crispier french fries!
Now you ask, why haven't I fix it? Sheer laziness? Maybe. Part too expensive? Nah... only $40 Busy? well work from 0630 - 1430 monday thru friday, 25 minute drive to MonkeyMan's school to pick him up at 3:45. Carpool is ALWAYS SLOW! Closest parts store is 12 miles from house and closes daily at 5. I think it may be a time thing. But I seriously need to get it done. Especially after I saw this blog:

http://www.completelydelicious.com/2010/06/lemon-blueberry-scones.html

Can we say a collective YUM?

Guess I will need to take half a day before the semester starts back up.

Cherie

Jaxie

Hello my dears,

Hope all of you are doing well.

I on the other hand have been truly concerned for my kitty.

So picture this; Sleeping the good Saturday morning sleep.  You know the kind where you think you are suppose to be up, but realize you can sleep in because it is Saturday. Dozing, not quite sleeping, but just comfy and dozing. just falling back to sleep when BAM! you are awaken to wet feet. OK WHY ARE MY FEET WET?
Wrestle yourself out of the cocoon you have made for yourself and realize that your dear, sweet lovable Jax just peed on your bed. Not just a little bit, but a lot, soaking your feet through a duvet cover, comforter and a sheet.  And it smells! Strong!
Not a good thing at 6:30am!
Only thing to do was throw a towel on the bed, because HandsomeMan was still sleeping and who am I to wake him because my cat peed on my side of the bed. ;-) then take a shower.

Jax proceeded to hide for most of the day, only coming out of the closet (HA) to nibble on some food and get some water.
I don't think I even hear him scratching litter anywhere in the house. I have 3 litter boxes with 3 - 7 cats at any given moment.
Sunday I had a busy, busy day. Mother in laws, cleaning, and making the curtains for my room. Didn't even realize that my companion for most of my projects wasn't around until I went to look for him around 5.

I found him in the closet, on top of my laptop bag. Red ears, warm to the touch and cowering when I went near him.
I scooped him up and took him to the office to sit so I could get a look at him.
Looking him over I saw that his ears when crusty. There were crusties in his eyes and he didn't seem to want to put any pressure on his paws.
Looking at his paws, I saw they were gray around the claws and pads. When I tried to get the mess off, I almost got bit. Jax never bites. NEVER. love bug. Something was wrong.

Lizard and I decided that Jax's paws needed to be washed to see what was under the gray stuff.
Not a fun experience. Really Have you ever given a kitty a bath, even a cat that loves knocking over water bottles, cups and dishes. He just looked at me like "Why? Mommy? Why are you doing this?"
One soft toothbrush and dial soap later, most of the gray stuff off. Thank goodness!
Pads are a bit raw. but he can walk again.

Into the isolation kennel he went until Vet visit scheduled for next day. Clean Litter, clean water and food.
Can you see how red his ears are?

Vet said Poor Jax has a bacterial infection. Cause - Unknown.  Risk to other kitties - None.
One ear ointment, one steriod, one antibiotic 2x a day for 2 weeks. FUN for me when I get up at 5am but I love my kitty.

Hopefully soon, my baby Jax will be better and back to his loving self. I miss my cuddle bug with fur flying in my face or a tail whipping my head.

Keep my baby Jax in your thoughts.
Hugs,
Cherie

New Curtains

Hello my dears,

Sorry I have been MIA lately. Just too much going on with Mack moving in with her Dad.
Between work, sunburn and moving furniture into the sewing room it has been a rough couple of weeks.

I did get some curtains done for my bedroom today.

Aren't they pretty?

Easy peasey too!

First buy a couple of flat sheets from Walmart. I think they are $5. Walmart had the only gray in the right tone that I was looking for.
Then measure a fold about 6 inches from the bottom. Takes a bit of time to get it right as the edges weren't lining up correctly.
The measure 3 inches on that same fold. I used a chalk pencil to create a sewing line as I can't sew straight unless it is a 1/4 inch seam.

That pretty detail on the side is paint. Just find your self a nice stencil. Michael's had these on sale for like $2. and there are a bunch of them in the pack.

I didn't mark how far down or how much space in between each stencil, just eyeballed it. Lucky for me I was able to get 10 stencils down the side of each panel.

My bedding is purple.
Want to see?

HA! thought you were going to get to see my room and bed. Not until it is all done!

Hugs,

Cherie

Got Magnets...

Hello my dears,

Hope that you all have had a great holiday weekend.
I know I did!

Went to the beach, got too much sun, had too much fun. Hair is lighter and wavery from it. There is no taming it now. It is a HOT MESS.

Got to love web cams.

On a higher note, I found out that I won a giveaway from Pretty Handy girl  Which is pretty awesome. And she lives in the same area as me. WOOT so I don't have to wait for the mail to get my prize. We are going to meet for coffee or dessert. I actually get to meet a fellow blogger, how cool is that?

So, on to the crafty side. I know I have been very crafty lately. Too much going on. The girls father came back from a 2 year stint overseas, so they are with him for the next 2 weeks. Mack has decided to move in with her Dad, lets just say I am not very happy, but she made this decision on her own. And I get a craft room out of the deal. I know that sounds horrible. But what else am I going to do with the extra bedroom for the rest of the time.

I did get bored and make some magnets, you know the ones you have been seeing all over blogland made out of the clear vase pebbles.

With some scraps of fabric, mod-podge, hot glue and some strips of magnets. EASY. Next time though I will use round magnets. This is not fun when you have to cut round edges on the 1/2 inch pieces of magnets.
They don't hold up much, but they sure are cute!

P.S. Don't forget to like the facebook page. I am up to 20 likes so far!

Odds and Ends

Hello there my dears,

I truly hope all of you had a good weekend.
My Saturday started off early taking all 4 kittens to get vaccinated and blood drawn. Not a fun trip. Left one at the Fosters house as he was getting neutered this week and took another home.
Then off Thrifting with the MIL and Lizard.
Found some great baby clothes for $1 each. Score!
Dropped off some of Monkey Man's toys at the thrift store after cleaning his room. You never realize how many McDonald's toys a kid has until you dump out the toy box.
4 boxes of mega and duplo legos.  Where did all this stuff come from!?

On to Logan's for a good lunch and then Target for some shopping.
Have  you seen Targets swimwear for Women? OMG sooo cute.

Look coverage for the Ta-tas and the tummy! Now if it only came with a skirt bottom, but I guess that is what cover ups are made for.

Also, found a Duvet cover for my bed, although it is in a king size.
Imagine this with purple flowers

I decided to hack it up to make it a queen size and add a couple of more shams with the extra fabric.
Well the duvet came out fine. The shams on the other hand, not so good.
  1. I have to remember not to cut fabric at 10pm.
  2. I need to write down my measurements
  3. I need to allow for seam allowances!
  4. SEAM ALLOWANCES
Ok... that is enough. I made myself cry when I realized that I cut wrong. At least it is just the side panels. the back is correct and so is the center panel. So I guess I will have to go get more fabric.

I am also hand painting a small stool in Persimmon Red by Martha Stewart.

Not sure that I like it as it seems watery. Doesn't cover well and is streaky.

What have you been up to?

Hugs,

Cherie

Raye-Raye Tray

Hello All,

Thought I would share with you one of the trays that I made for a friend. This tray caused me a bit of anxiety as it is multicolored, multilayers.

Raye had a bowl that she requested a tray made to match after seeing all the others that I have done.
Teal, Gray and Silver. The bowl was glass and swirled. I wish I had a picture of it.

Here is my version of the tray:
If you look close at the bottom you can see the top part of the bowl.

These pictures do not do it justice. You really have to see it in person.

And Raye LOVED IT!

No Sew Pillows

Hello there my dears,

Hope all is well with you all. I have had a H.E.L.L of A WEEK. I quit smoking 2 weeks ago, yes I know, filthy nasty habit. No more smell, no more stinky breathe! Wo0o0ot. But along with doing that my energy has been sucked into outer space. I have also been HUNGRY, like I haven't eaten in years. I have been trying to get myself back on a routine.
Thank you all for being patient.

We have had a baby born at the beginning of the month. A little baby girl! So excited for my BIL and SIL. Little Miss will be spoiled like no other. We have already been banned from purchasing any more clothing for a while.

Last weekend I got a rush of energy and decided to craft as I was sitting at the craft table staring at all the projects that I wanted to do. The piles of fabric, the inspiration board. UGH!

Out came No Sew Pillows

And they are just that. Open a seam in a placemat from Target clearance, stuff one of the pillow inserts in(also clearance at Target). Close up the seam with straight pins and add some fabric tac to said seam. Squeeze the seam closed, get glue all over your finger tips. Unpin it, trying not to pin yourself. And there you have a No sew pillow.
Great Color to add for summer.

Hugs,

Cherie

Hoo Are you, Hoo Hoo?

Welcome to Dragonfliez Creationz If you are visiting. Stop on in and stay a bit.

This is my 2nd "Hoo are you?"

NightOwlCrafting

Here are this week's questions!
1. How often do you wash your vehicle?
2. When riding in a car with someone who usually drives, them or you?
3. How many states have you traveled to or through?
4. What kind of music do you listen to the most?
5. Do you prefer the window down or air conditioning?

1. Probably not as often as I should. Maybe once every few months. With the weather changes here in the south and the pollen outbreak that we have had this spring, the Dodge has only gotten a real bath 2 times.
2. I prefer driving if I know where I am going.
3. I have been through most of them from I40 west to Colorado and Florida I95 to New York.
4. Whatever is on the radio, mostly pop, alternative mix. Though I like a variety of music. You should here my Pandora mixes.
5. Depends on the weather and how fast we are going. If we are in the city and it is spring weather, windows down. A/C if we are in the highway. But I do love the top down in the Jeep.

Hugs!

Lizard Made a dress

Hello my dears,

So Lizard was watching a video the other day on how to make a dress. The girl in the video didnt speak, just pointed to material, scissors and showed how to sew it.

It is really cool. This young lady has soo many tutorials on how to make dresses.

Here is Lizard's version.

Isn't it darling?

I love it.

a long break

It has been a week of ho-hum and no inspiration.

Now I am singing...
Welcome back,
Your dreams were your ticket out.

Welcome back,
To that same old place that you laughed about.

Anyone remember that theme song? Am I showing my age? (hangs head in shame)

So where have I been? to flea markets and back again.

Did I find anything? Why yes I did. Thank you for asking.
I found the cutest little chair that had been refinished for $5... yes five dollars!
Sorry about the background. My neighbor is refusing to mow his yard.
I also found some prisms for Lizards chandelier that she is working on.
All in all it was a good day.

Handsome Man is quitting smoking cigarettes and is going to the ecig. We will see how that goes.

What have you all been up to this week?

Cherie
