Remember Those.

How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!  ~Maya Angelou

Let us remember those who have valiantly fought for our freedom. Both my grandfathers, my father and I are veterans.

In a world...

Hello my dears,

Look I made a sign!

Found a drawer front at the reStore place. Filled in the holes with some wood fill.
Waited and waited to do anything with it.
Then I remembered that I bought some vinyl stickers at the Dollar Tree awhile ago.

Painted the piece of wood white
Didn't like it as it was tooooo white.
Then I added some Sherwin Williams "Tradewind" in a process of dry brushing that over it.
Then add some espresso acrylic paint mixed with some staining medium.
Finally had the right color.
Add some Dollar Tree vinyl and there is your sign!
Quick, easy and ADORABLE.

I had made it for my daughters bathroom, however Handsome Man put it over the front door. So there is a constant reminder to BE YOURSELF as you walk out the door.

Chicken Dinner Score!

Good morning all,

Hope you all are ready for a fun filled weekend.

What does this picture have to do with this post?  Absolutely NOTHING. This is about as constructive as I have been all week. Purple Toesies!!!

What to know what happened this week? I know you do.
Hello, any one out there? ( why do I hear crickets)

Here is a story (of a lovely Lady) whose oven decided that it didn't like her using it all the time. Cooking, baking, broiling, roasting. Maybe it just wanted to be cleaned and decided it couldn't wait any longer... Who knows!
I could go all dramatic on you, but I won't as it is kinda boring... but it was my adventure for the week.
It was chicken dinner night. Tuesday. Baked chicken, some rice and corn. YUMMY!

Preheat oven
Season Chicken
Shu Big cats away from chicken
walk out of the room to check on kids and kittens.
Come back into kitchen
Notice a bright light coming from the oven.

Look down and think the "ok, the light is not on." Open oven to see a BRIGHT RED spot in the baking element which looks like it is melting. Turn off oven. Hear a pop.
Open Oven, because you have a death wish. Element is broken in two pieces.
Try to take pictures to show HandsomeMan - Too dark in there
Close oven
Check other burners and broiler.
All works.
Score! No more baking for me ;-)

Grab Charcoal and lighter fluid, cuz we like fire and lighter fluid = larger fire to get charcoal going.
make dinner on the grill.

Handsome Man stated that was the best chicken he has had. I must make it like that all the time.
In 9 years together, THAT WAS THE BEST CHICKEN????

well at least now I know how to get him to eat chicken. And know I know why my oven has been acting wonky.
Also this week I found out you can cook French fries on the grill, Whooooo KNEW!

What do you have planned for the Holiday weekend?
Apparently I have a weekend of grilling since the appliance store is closed until Tuesday.

Hugs!

Hooooo Are you?

Hello my dears,

While reading my blogs I came across Nat Mac's Knick Knacks who is participating in Night Owl Crafting "hoo are you?" series.

 NightOwlCrafting

Here are this week's questions!
1.  What is your favorite thing cooked on the bbq?
2. How do you celebrate Memorial Day?
3. Do you like your handwriting?
4. Do you still have your tonsils?
5. Do you unite your shoes when you take them off?

1.  Pulled pork and corn.
2. cooking out of course.  Hamburgers, hotdogs, corn, slaw, beans, chips. Just your basic cook out
3. I have horrid handwriting. I could be a doctor, if handwriting counted as a requirement.
4.  I have all my parts except 2 wisdom teeth and a bit of my fallopian tubes ;-)
5. Always. They are side by side on the floor, in the closet, under the coffee table. Hate trying to put on my shoes when they are all over the place. I am weird like that.

Soooo Hoooo Are you?

Can't wait to find out!

Lazy Day and a quilt

Hello there my dears,

Hope you all have had a wonderful weekend.
Since the Rapture didn't get any of us, thought that I better post some stuff.

Today has been lazy day and  laundry day, I am not even making dinner as Lizard and your BOYFRIEND are in the kitchen making lasagna!!

In between laundry and watching Handsome Man get his butt kicked playing Bad Company, I did manage to squeeze in a mini quilt made out of some scraps I had.

It is 9 inches x 9 inches pinwheel design.
Pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Hardest part is getting your half square triangles sewn.
I don't have a picture of how I did it as these were in my scrap pile from a previous project.
Here are the basics
pinwheel quilt, quilting

I was trying to do a mug rug for work so we aren't using paper towels to place our drinks on. And the pinks should girly up the office a bit as I am the only female in my department! What do you think?

A raspberrt tart

Well Hello there my Dears,

I thought I would share one of the pastry dishes that I made recently.
It was delish!

Raspberry Coffee Cake
Recipe from The Luna Cafe
• 2 cups all purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 cup butter (recipe says unsalted, but I used salted butter)
• 3 ounces cream cheese
• 1/2 cup milk
• 1/2 cup raspberry preserves (or preserves of your choice)
Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl. Cut in the butter and cream cheese. Pour on the milk and stir just until combined. Turn out on a floured surface and knead lightly 4 or 5 times. Do not overwork the dough! Roll the dough out on wax paper into an 8 x 12 inch rectangle. Transfer dough to a lightly greased (or wax paper lined) baking sheet. Mark the dough with a knife lengthwise into thirds. Spread preserves down the center third of the dough. Make diagonal cuts every couple of inches on the outer thirds of the dough. Do nut cut into the preserves. Fold strips over the preserves, first from one side, then from other until you have folded over all the strips of dough. Bake for 12 – 15 minutes, until dough is fully cooked and lightly browned on top.
Icing
• 1/2 cup powdered sugar
• 1 tbsp milk
• 1/4 tsp vanilla
Stir together and drizzle over the coffee cake.

I hope you try it!

I would love to know how yours turned out and maybe a picture. My children ate it all!

Hugs,

Cherie

my first upcycle

Hello My dears,

How have you all been doing?

This week has been busy and tiring for me. So much so that last night I had to stop moving around and lay in the bed in pain from my hip all the way down to my ankle. Nothing was helping, it happens as I have a bad hip that i may want to get looked out.

But earlier in the week I did do my first upcycle of a t-shirt that had a couple of oil stains and the shirt didn't fit right. Walmart t-shirt that stretch out weird after washing, which is probably why it was in the back of the closet.

I never did take any pictures of the process that I did for the shirt. There are soo many tutorials out there. I know that Kimbo over at AGAGG. Though I didn't exactly follow any directions. I mostly had something in my head and went with it, which is not something I usually do. STEP OUT OF THAT COMFORT ZONE, Cherie.
First start hacking at the shirt, literally people. Just take a pair of scissors to it. Of course there was a plan and I drew it out first.
Cut the neck out.
Cut off part of the sleeves. I wanted something to go to my elbow.
Pinning my fingers trying to make neat seams all around, sewing, making a few rosettes from the left over sleeves and Voila! The newest cardigan in my collection!

Don't mind the faces... it was a little bright outside!

Whatcha think? Step out of that comfort zone gone wrong or do it again with another shirt. I have many many shirts that have something on them ;-)

Hugs!

Birthday Celebrations

Hello my dears!

No it isn't my birthday. But it is Rachelle's over at Fingerprints on the Fridge. Go wish her happy birthday!

Slow day today for me. Still working at the moment. maybe I will get some crafting done this evening.
I have to go pick up another foster kitten tonight.

Last night I was so pooped that I took a nap after work. Didn't make it upstairs to change out of my work clothes, just laid on the couch and took a 2 hour snooze. Which of course made it very difficult for me to try to sleep last night, so I could wake up at 5am.

Anywho, While I was napping away my afternoon, Lizard was crafting for a school project.

She was doing a family tree for Spanish class. I took one look at this and told her to go make another as this one is now MOMMY'S! I think she thought I was kidding until I placed on top of the Pie Safe for everyone to see until I can frame it properly.

well I am still tired and my day here is soon coming to an end and maybe I should get some work done ;-)

hugs!

Back from a long weekend

Hello there my darlings, my dears!

It has been one whirlwind of a weekend. Full of wedding stuff, walking, cooking, cleaning and just down right tiring. Pot Luck bbq's are the best. There was soo much food. I would like to thank everyone that came.

The wedding was short and sweet. Our Judge had a serious southern accent. Took all I could not to start laughing. Seriously, how does one make the words North Carolina into a 8 syllable word?
Pictures were taken in one of the parks downtown, remind me to wear regular shoes when walking downtown. Kitten heels are not fun. Feet are still hurting.

This weekend I didn't get any crafting done. NOT A BIT... seriously jonesing for some sewing, hot glue, burning my fingers making flowers.

Speaking of Flowers, a lot of people asked how big was the flower that I made for my wedding was. I hope this helps.
Don't Mind the Hair... weather was not cooperating.

So I started reading my list of blog feeds I had from the weekend and found out that Shannon over at ShannonMakesStuff LOVES my wedding flower. I am so proud. Giddy actually :-)

Thinking about creating a Etsy store to start selling my flowers and hair accessories. Still debating and for those of you that know me, know I do that A LOT.

Well hopefully this week will be low key.

Hugs,
Cherie

Addiction

Hello my dears,

My Addiction on my phones... yes that is plural. (Work  cell and home cell)
Angry Birds
Who has played?
I started a few months ago after getting my hair cut and seeing a woman playing it while waiting on her mother to finish getting her hair did ;-)

Addicting little game. My son has even gotten me through a few levels.
Well now my friends you can play it online!!

http://chrome.angrybirds.com/

You have to install Google Chrome Browser, which I recommend and love it!

Go play and see how addicting and how much you yell at the screen while playing, resetting the level over and over and over just to try to get 3 stars... AHHHHH who cares about the 3 stars, just get me through the level!

Hugs!

a new day.. another flower

Hello my darlings, my dears!

Ahhhh antibiotics are a wonderful thing! I can breathe, though a bit sniffly aka... sinus infection is breaking up. EEEWWWW.

On a better note I am making hair accessory and flowers for my dress. I also made a boutonniere (I made to look up the spelling of that word... I think spell check was laughing at me) for Handsome Man for the WEDDING!! A thought just popped in to my head: Do I need to make one for Monkey Man?
He already wanted me to do his nails... ahhh the life of a young man in a house full of girls.

My hair will be swept to the side and this will be in the back/side of my head

Blush colored dress, a little plain, had to add something to it.

For Handsome Man

We are getting down to the wire.
Lots of cleaning, lots of preparing. Pedicures and manicures for me and the girls. We do our own here in the Dragonfliez house. Hair cuts for Monkey Man and Handsome Man... we do those here too. Jane of all trades here and trying to save as much money as we can.
We are just going to the court house to get married, but we have a photographer for after to take some beautiful pictures of us in downtown Raleigh.
Hoping for Beautiful weather, but NC weather I think has it out for us here... forecasted scattered storms! Rain is a good thing on the wedding day, right?

On a sad, sad note:
MY Dreaded stairs!!! I am so not happy. the paint bled through the painters tape, but not the frog tape.

Not good. do i take a dremel to it? do I just paint over it with a chocolate colored paint? HELP!!

Until next time,
Hugs!
Cherie

Linking up

P.S. Happy Mother's day to all of y'all.

Alive and Well... Maybe

Hello my dears,

This has been me for the past week.
Courtesy of Lizard.
yes, on the couch. WIPED. No motivation, no cleaning, no cooking, laying my big arse on the couch due to a sinus infection. Doesn't that sound fun?

A few things that I have realized this week:
1. There is never enough DVR'ed Law and Order: SVU or LA
2. Make sure you have someone willing to take the Monkey Man so you can sleep peacefully without someone opening your eyes every five minutes hour asking for something to eat.
3. Make sure you have a comfy pillow otherwise the couch pillows will give you a kink in your neck.
4. Make sure when you have to make a trip to Walmart for medication you don't over exert yourself.

Yes, It has not been a good week. Finally today I feel better, antibiotics are a wonderful thing.
Vacuumed the house, after a week on no vacuuming and 6 cats is was kinda getting gross. Yes, people, keeping it real. The girls are not allowed to touch Mommy's new vacuum, as they like sucking up large things like paper or hair clips. Anyway, all vacuumed, kitchen clean, couch back to being a couch instead of a sick bed and I think my DVR is finally cleared out.

Can I go back to work please???

Hugs,

Cherie

Sickies and a surprise.

Hello my dears,

No I haven't left you. Just been feeling really under the weather with a sore throat and body aches. No motivation to do anything. My house is a mess but thank goodness HandsomeMan and the kids are here to take care of me. MonkeyMan is tracked out for the next 2 weeks so at least I didn't have to get up to take him to school.

For those of that know The Dragonfliez Family know that HandsomeMan and I have been happily together for 8 years. Well after many failed attempts at putting on a wedding we have decided to finally say the "I do's" on May 13th. YAY!!! We are excited. I have soooo many flower designs going through my head. I have a vintage looking peach dress that needs some "Flair." HandsomeMan will be in a simple white checked shirt and khakis. Nothing big and fancy as I am not a big and fancy person.
We will be throwing a backyard party on May 14th. Nothing big as this is the second time around for both us. Just friends and family.

Until next time I have the motivation to get out of bed and write something down.

Hugs,

Cherie
